Day 6 on Iceland

"This is the day the Lord has made; rejoice and be glad in it."

Since the church was "closed" this Sunday, we decided to be intentional about keeping the Sabbath, by not racing off, not driving if possible, and stopping to rest. Plus it's too cold to really go anywhere for adventure.

But not too cold to sit and sup: and blog; and do laundry.

After breakfast we camped out in the hotel dining room, blogging, enjoying cuppas and tending to our laundry just across the road.

Eventually we declared it lunchtime and ordered salad and bread.

It was amazing.

Mid-afternoon we took a hike.

At the edge of town a steep path leads to Tvisongur, a site-specific sound sculpture by German artist Lukas Kühne that is located on a mountainside above the town of Seydisfjordur.

The work is built of concrete and consists of five interconnected domes of different sizes. The heights of the domes are between 2 and 4 meters and they cover an area of about 30 square meters. Each dome has its own resonance that corresponds to a tone in the Icelandic musical tradition of five-tone harmony, and works as a natural amplifier to that tone.

I played Of Monsters and Men's "Little Talks" while standing in one dome. Listening to Icelandic musicians while standing in a site-specific sculpture IN Iceland was a real trip!

The view from the top gives a sense of the town and its environs.

"Day is done, gone the sun....."
Oh right, the sun won't be gone 'til 10:46pm.

  1. What a cool place the domes must be. What fun to listen to the music inside the domes as I imagine it echoes throughout the various chambers. The scenery continues to be spectacular. You've had a fine day of rest. beautiful buildings and such beautiful food presentation.
