Then we headed east. Without meandering, the drive to the Eastfiords expected to be 6 hours. But then, we are meanderers.
Found another walk to a glacier. This one not so taxing as the previous day.
Then a return to Jokulsarlon lagoon. Sunnier and no winds today. Picnicked in the car, watching people and icebergs frolic.
Then we headed further east, turning north toward the eastern fjords.
A first - reindeer!
The drive twisted and turned as we drove up and down fjords.
Then we arrived at a decision point. After much map-checking, we determined what we thought was the "best" route to take.
Looking back, I'm not sure there was a best route. But the route chosen was quite memorable.
We drove to the summit of a glacier, then down the other side, then picked up the road to our destination, Seydisfjordur, when it began to snow. The road twisted down to the coast, and finally we had arrived. 10 hours after our departure. Oh my.

Amazing day! I was wondering when/if you'd see reindeer. So glad you did!
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting adventure this day presented. The scenery is just gorgeous. I like the tale of which road is the correct one. And then you end up driving in snow. What and experience you're having. I wish I had a map of Iceland to follow your travels more closely.
